Web Accessibility

The Humbug Scrub Wildlife Sanctuary Heritage Society is committed to providing an accessible website to all users. Accessibility will be achieved through AAA compliance with the WCAG 1.0 priority levels. It is the policy of the Humbug Scrub Wildlife Sanctuary Heritage Society that all current and future web pages will comply with all three priority levels.

The website validates to W3C strict XHTML and CSS standards and headings are structured according to strict hierarchy.

Current W3C technologies have been employed and deprecated elements and attributes are avoided.

The site functions on a wide range of browsers tested on both MAC and Windows platforms, including older generation 4 browsers such as Netscape 4.7.

Meaningful text equivalents have been provided for every non-text element. Captions are provided for streaming video and transcriptions are provided for audio.

Style sheets are employed to control layout and presentation and pages function when these style sheets are disabled.

Print and audio style sheets are also provided to assist those requiring alternative access to the screen based content.

The natural language of the website is identified via the lang attribute associated with the html element.

Correct mark-up is employed with relative rather than fixed sizing used for layout and font sizing. Pages are fluid and resize to any screen resolution.

Layout tables are not used - layout is achieved via CSS coding.
